We recently opened for Man Man at Northeastern University. A kind soul saw our performance and wrote about it in the Allston Pudding! You can see what they said right here! It is also copied below.

“The Whiskey Boys, David Delaney and Mark Kilianski, are — quite simply — nice guys making nice music. Their pure and well-intentioned bluegrass is crafted with attention and skill on guitar and fiddle, firmly rooted in Americana but occasionally drifting into Irish or Eastern European flairs. Though the duo is based in Boston, a subtle twang flavors the ends of their words. Their songs center around themes of love and loss (as any good old-time country music does) sometimes woven through ballads rife with historical reference such as the energizing number about the Whiskey Rebellion, itself a prime example of Appalachian influences as well as clever lyrics refuting President Washington’s mirror of Britain’s “white-wigged monarchy”. The duo themselves are named for the very partakers in the Whiskey Rebellion, a fact they illuminate for us amidst a rambling historical explanation which may have been (but was hopefully not) lost on the several dozen plaid-clad audience members. Launching back into the music, their vocals are simple and solid, but the sort of intertwined archetypal bluegrass harmonies that the Whiskey Boys would do well to further emulate weren’t fully showcased until the end of the set in “Tom Dooley.” Their final song, “Loose Lips,” was a fine end to their performance, beginning with rounds of chromaticism humming soft and sad out of the fiddle, then taken up as the guitar arpeggiated below the fiddle’s bouncing, lilting licks. The song — reluctantly described as “relationshippy” — grew fierce and fiery, taking on a more contemporary feel. The old and the new come together nicely, and quite politely the Whiskey Boys thank us for enjoying them so much.” -Laura Brubaker

The original Whiskey Boys were men and women who in the 1790s protested a tax that was skewed in favor of the entrenched powers of the time. The Whiskey Boys now stand up against a bill that is similar in spirit. The Stop Online Piracy Act would mean the end to online communities and resources like Facebook, Twitter, Youtube, Google+, Wikipedia, our Podcast, Bandcamp, and many other websites that are crucial to the success of independent musicians. SOPA would make it once again impossible to make a living in music without a major label. Please consider taking action against SOPA at this link:

We will be performing at an event called SOOP this Sunday in replacement for our advertised gig at Club Passim:

SOOP, standing for Stories Of Our People is a storytelling potluck at 20 Granada Park in Roxbury, MA (Accessible by Stony Brook stop on the Orange Line) once a month. People come and bring vegetables or a bottle of wine (no hard alcohol, please) we make a soup and while it is stewing, people share a “story” that is important to them. Fairie Tales, songs, poems, personal anecdotes, etc.

The Whiskey Boys would like to be clear that Club Passim bears no responsibility for this change.
